‘A 20:20 vision of Educational Psychology: play, learning, inclusion and diversity.  An exploration of current developments and advancements within educational psychology'


Thursday 9th and Friday 10th January 2020, Park Inn by Radisson, Northampton

The DECP invites you to attend our 2020 conference to explore the changing needs of children and young people in the 21st century. The conference will bring together leading keynote speakers, young people and academics, alongside relevant and practical examples  to develop thinking and practice about what educational psychologists can do to facilitate play, learning, inclusion and diversity for the children, families and schools they work with.

The event consists of two days of keynote speakers, workshops, a dinner and dance, book launch, and a drinks reception.

Keynote speakers will include:


Professor Becky Francis, Director of UCL Institute of Education (IOE). Previously Professor of Education and Social Justice at King's College London. Standing Advisor to the UK Parliamentary committee responsible for scrutinising government policy on education and responsible for researching major reforms, and their impact on educational inequalities, in particular, the policy of academisation. Becky's research focuses on social identities (gender, 'race' and social class) and inequalities in education. She is currently directing the Education Endowment Foundation-funded project ‘Best Practice in Grouping Students’, a mixed methods study involving 140 English secondary schools, investigating attainment and non-attainment grouping in relation to social inequality.


Dr Cora Sargeant, Educational Psychologist in Wiltshire and Academic and Professional Tutor at the University of Southampton: considering a broader conceptualisation of inclusion

to include gender diversity, gender inclusion and gender inclusive practices for educational psychologists.


Talk Out Loud, young people's Mental Health participation group: focussing on raising awareness of mental health needs amongst young people and reducing the stigma and discrimination experienced by them.


Shooting Stars, Northamptonshire 13 -25 Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Group, participating and supporting in consultations and ensuring young people have a voice about issues and services.

Call for Submissions

The DECP is calling for submissions of abstracts, workshops, and posters. It welcomes submissions from main grade educational psychologists and those in training.


The deadline for submissions is 23rd September 2019. Further information about criteria is available via:  https://www.kc-jones.co.uk/decp2020

Workshops are usually allocated 1 or 2 hours on the programme.
